Junta…
It gives me immense pleasure to write a testimonial for my friend, Tarun Cherukuri.
Technology Manager, Foods, Hindustan Unilever Limted (Formerly and more popular as Hindustan Lever). Earning Rupees 20+ lakhs per annum until a couple of months back. BITS Pilani Alumnus. Gold medalist in Chemical Engineering at BITS. Rejected a 35+ lakhs p.a. job at Schulmberger in 2006 upon graduation, ‘coz he wanted to work in India. Best student at every institute he studied. Badminton champion U-13 and U-11 at national level. I am testimony to each of his achievements – he was my buddy through school and university.
So, what more can I tell you about him which is not on his illustrious CV, which by a huge distance is the best I have ever seen. Maybe, I should tell you what he is doing now. For starters, he quit his job at Unilever to work at an NGO called TeachforIndia. He now teaches in a slum school at Wadgaonsheri, Pune.
The first time I heard his decision, I was apprehensive. The first time I saw a couple of pictures from his training, I was gladdened, he was doing something he loved for so long. Today, as I look at the difference he has made to the underprivileged kids of National Childrens Academy at Wadgaonshire, Pune, I swell with pride at having been privy to one of the most sublime men of our generation.
I would join his plea to you all to extend him a helping hand and contribute in your own way to his efforts. Do get back to him or his NGO and see how you can make a difference in your own way.
All I can do here, is vouch for my friend, who I am very proud of, for taking a decision which I certainly might not have taken. I am proud of the fact that in a world where media cribs about MBA grads rejecting potential millionaire offers in MNCs to set up their own entrepreneurship, here is a guy, who had the guts, in his words, to "chose to be a milionaire with levers in India instead of a crorepathi with Slumberger in Scotland." and later on chose to do what he loves best – service the needy, make a difference and change the world.

no word to say… incredible..!!!
one word to say… incredible..!!!
I just can’t understand how come anyone sacrifice so much!!
How did a guy who made it to BITS and topped every where leave all his accomplishments behind and walk to teach in the slum schools ?!!
This guy must surely be having some legends in his family history.
Kudoos Tarun.
Kavitha.
Tarun seems to have a heart that responds, a brain that executes, smartness that helps him execute well, and determination and passion that ensures that he listens to the heart, think about what to do and how to do it well. I wish him a great future.
